This courtyard garden was designed to be extremely low maintenance and was constructed by Hillview Landscapes 2015.

This flight of steps is part of a wide, steeply sloping front garden near Cheddar Gorge in Somerset. It was designed and constructed in 2004 and planted up over the following 2 years. The steps give easy access down the slope between large drifts of herbaceous perennials and low growing evergreen shrubs. Constructed by Landmark Gardens.

This front drive in Taunton, Somerset shows that drives don't have to be just a strip of tarmac. Designed 2005. Constructed by Hillview Landscapes.

This back garden in Bishops Lydeard, Somerset was entirely sloping originally, but the judicious use retaining walls enable the client to now have a large flat area of lawn and sunny patio. Designed 2007. Constructed 2008.

This patio area in North Curry, Somerset shows a raised bed providing a useful herb area near the kitchen door and linking the patio to the higher lawn level. Designed and constructed 2010. Built by Hillview Landscapes.

This site in Uplyme, Dorset, was originally a steep muddy slope where you could just about scramble down to an existing pond. The curved rill with steps each side now give easy and enjoyable access down to the pond, and the remaining soggy soil has been planted with moisture loving perennials and Dogwoods. Designed in 2009. Constructed by Hillview Landscapes 2010.

This back garden near Bridgwater, Somerset, was built into the side of a quarry. To make best use of the space the garden was designed in a series of terraces, linked mostly by flights of stone steps. But this picture shows the link between terrace 2 and terrace 3, using an asymmetrical timber bridge beside a raised pond. Designed 2002. Constructed by Landmark Gardens. The bridge was built by the owner, an enthusiastic engineer.

This front garden in Stoke St Gregory needed to be suitable for parking but attractive at the same time.

This courtyard in Middlezoy was created using reclaimed bricks and paving from a much smaller patio to save buying new materials. Constructed by Landmark Gardens.

This steep front drive in Charmouth was transformed from an unprepossessing gravel slope by attractive paving and curved raised beds, planted with cascading plants. Constructed by Tony Benger Landscapes, 2010.

Client's comment :

'We are still always delighted to see the shape of the beds and the planting, even though our tending of it is quite negligent.'

This garden in Exmouth was made more practical to manage by terracing into two levels. Low planting along the boundary ensures a view of the estuary will not be obscured.
